Karna Malaviya - Public & Health Economist

Hi, I’m Karna, a PhD candidate in Economics at the University of California, San Diego. My research lies at the intersection of public and health economics, examining the trade-offs policymakers face—between access, safety, efficiency, and innovation—and how their interactions with market forces shape behavior and welfare.

I explore these questions in the context of emerging features of modern pharmaceutical markets, including supply chain fragility, manufacturing concentration, shortages, and drug compounding.

I am on the 2025–2026 job market. My Job Market Paper and CV can be found here.

Feel free to explore my website to learn more about my research and teaching. If you’d like to connect, you can reach me at kmalaviya[at]ucsd[dot]edu.
